Ambassador Bukun-Olu Onemola graduated from the University of Lagos in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Degree in Sociology. He was also awarded Master of Science (M.Sc.) Degree in Sociology and International Relations from the University of Ibadan in 1985. He participated in the compulsory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in 1979.
Ambassador Onemola joined the Foreign Service of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 1980 and since then, he has served as:
Minister at the Permanent Mission of Nigeria to the United Nations, New York, in charge of Disarmament and International Security;
Assistant Director, Policy Planning Division, in charge of Budget and Programme Planning;
Assistant Director, International Organizations Department, in charge of Disarmament, International Security and Outer Space Issues;
Minister, Permanent Mission of Nigeria to the United Nations, Vienna, Austria, in charge of Disarmament, International Security and Outer Space issues;
Senior Counsellor, West African Affairs Department, in charge of ECOWAS matters;
Counsellor, Technical Aid Corps Department, in charge of Management and deployment of Corps members to Africa, Caribbean and Pacific countries;
First Secretary and Acting High Commissioner, Embassy of Nigeria, Banjui, The Gambia; and
Second Secretary, Embassy of Nigeria, The Hague, Netherlands, in charge of Political and Commercial Affairs.
In 2008, Ambassador Bukun-Olu Onemola was appointed Ambassador, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Nigeria to the United Nations, New York by the President, Commander-In-Chief, Federal Republic of Nigeria, H.E. Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar’Adua. He has been the Deputy Permanent Representative of Nigeria to the United Nations, New York since April 2008.
He is married to Mrs. Roseline Tinuola O. Onemola and they have children.
