Fourth Committee: The Special Political and Decolonization Committee 

The Special Political and Decolonization Committee also referred to as the (Fourth Committee) deals with a variety of subjects which include those related to decolonization, Palestinian refugees and human rights, peacekeeping, mine action, outer space, public information, atomic radiation and University for Peace. Since independence, Nigeria has been very active in the work of the Fourth Committee, particularly on issues of decolonisation in Africa and in the Middle East.

Professor Ogwu, representing Nigeria, is the chair of the Special Committee on Peacekeeping Operations (C-34), continuing an excellent tradition, whereby incumbent Permanent Representatives of Nigeria to the UN chair the C-34 substantive session.
