The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria, Mr. Odein Ajumogobia will preside over the Security Council debate on “Optimizing the use of preventive diplomacy tools: Prospects and challenges in Africa”. 

The debate initiated by Nigeria will put a spotlight on preventive diplomacy as a veritable tool for the promotion of international peace and security. According to the concept paper prepared by the Permanent Mission of Nigeria, preventive diplomacy could be viewed as a complement and not an alternative to peacekeeping.

Mr. Ajumogobia will immediately after the debate, attend a media stakeout at the United Nations Headquarters.
